event went well with lots of interest in turning. Bob thanked all members
who help make this event successful.
Wilf secured interest by a show of hands for members to put items in the show,

next fall's event.

Secretary- Treasurer, Carl Smith
- Reported that we have $2,640.26 in our Bank Account.
- Reported on Spruce Meadows Craft Sale; we made enough from 25% discount
received from member's sold items to cover the rent, however not enough to
cover $246. in other expenses. It should be noted that other expenses for
the past 2 years sales has provided us with shelving, dolly, bags etc. for
future sale events. A copy of "Summary of Business" will be distributed
to all members with this newsletter.
- Members are required to provide signed Applications and Personal Protection
information forms with payment
of Annual Dues which for 2005 have been set at $30.00 for members with E'Mail
and $35.00 for others.
Exhibitions, John Simard
- Reported on Spruce Meadows Craft Sale. While sales were below expectations
the sale went well with good
help from members to man the outlet. John thanked helping members for their
support. Stafford Wagstaff is missing a turning which is likely in with someone
else's items. Kindly call Stafford if it is in with your stuff.
- John wants to show appreciation to Andy Lockhart for storing craft sale
shelving and supplies. It was MOVED, SECONDED, and UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED that
John get a bottle of bubbly at the Guild's expense.
- Only 2 Wine Stoppers have been sold at the Oak Shoppe. John needs new items.
Library, Ron Falconer
- Nothing new at this time.
Programs, Jim Osenton
- Jim's team is developing plans for the remainder of the year. Call Jim with
your ideas.
- It's time to start thinking about planned shop tour for May, 2005. Jim needs
to have 3 shops for each morning and afternoon with, possibly, a BBQ somewhere
at noon. Get your ideas in to Jim.
- From a show of hands, Jim received interest in having another competition
on turning tops again next December. Jim will come up with some new rules.
RAFFLEKathy Somerville of Lee Valley donated a Power Visor Face
Shield AND a book, Turning Projects by Richard Raffan. Robert McFetridge won
the face shield and Dwayne Sims won the book. This raffle produced $164.00
Don West also donated pieces of Diamond Willow.
We have now raised a net, after purchase of library items,
$864. from our raffles. Credit for this has to go to KATHY SOMERVILLE of LEE
VALLEY for great raffle items. These funds are part of the $2,640 that Carl
reported being in our Bank Account. It is from this source that members are
considering purchasing a couple of demonstration lathes.
JIM OSENTON led us on a journey of a competition
turning tops. Jim supplied the wood, many pieces of approximately
2 X 2 X 6 Mayday, Birch, Fruitwood, and Maple. Participants on two different
lathes had to produce a top from ½ of one of the pieces in 6 minutes,
then proceed to produce a second one from remainder of wood block. The key
was that the time given to producing the second one was the amount of time
that the first piece was spinning on a cookie tray. Finally both pieces had
to spin at least 6 revolutions.
The winners, Ron Falconer, Jim Thorne, and Dale Keith each received a Gift Certificate from Craft Supplies. (Some of us need lots of practice before next year's event.) Fun has had by all. Thanks Jim.
