TERRY GOLBECK informed us that Black Forest have been successful in arranging for STEPHEN HOGBIN, designer/sculptor to teach a 3 day workshop in design at the Black Forest Wood Co. Jan. 16 to 18. While the course is for any of the visual arts disciplines, there is a particular focus for turners and furniture makers. Stephen, a Canadian, has been a major influence in the wood/furniture field since 1971. Through a series of exercises, illustrated talks and group discussion attendees will develop their own understanding of the design process. To see Stephen’s work, visit www.makersgallery.com/hogbin.
RON FALCONER is the contact for a lady who has opened a new retail outlet in Inglewood. She accepts turnings on consignment @ 70/30. Contact Ron for more info.
SHOW
AND TELL
JIM OSENTON displayed a Maple bowl with wood from the late HAROLD BISWANGER’S place. JIM trimmed it with Paduk. He showed us an unfinished bowl from Koa. Beautiful grain; can’t wait to see the finished piece. JIM showed us fine work from using his Macnaughton Bowl Saver. A large shallow bowl in rippled Maple and another plate with the saved piece trimmed with Wenge, JIM does great work with this tool; about time for another demo for our members?

JAY ANDERSON showed us a well made laser pointer attached to a Macnaughton Bowl Saver blade. This is ingenious. No doubt other members will be contacting Jay about making a similar guide.

VINCE KRYNSKI demonstrated how to make a paper clip box
which can be made in short order and
Vince tells us that he sells all that he has time to make for up to up to $35 each.
Vince starts off with a piece of 2 x 2 stock which he turns to 1 15/16”.
Firstly he uses 7/8” for the head. He makes an insert in the top for a different colour of wood
for contrast, and insert in the bottom for a tiny magnet (purchased from Lee Valley).
He then turns out the base and fits the top. Final turning is 1 ¾” X 1 15/16”.
This makes a great gift or sale item. Call VINCE for better instruction.
Nice work, VINCE!

NEXT MEETING
TUESDAY DECEMBER 2 AT 7:00 PM AT BLACK FOREST WOOD

AGENDA A competition in making egg cups with JIM OSENTON coordinating. Rather than setting up chairs as we usually do for regular meetings, our room will be set up with a number of lathes ready to go. Teams of 2 members each will turn an egg cup to fit an egg produced by Jim. Our group decided this event will be done as a fundraiser with entry fee yet to be developed. Bring own tools sharpened to go. Jim will provide blanks. This should be a FUN event.
DAVE BEEMAN will organize a raffle for some wood at the next meeting. The proceeds will go towards our Library Fund.
TERRY, BOB and JIM O our Nomination Committee are developing a slate of proposed new officers for our election. Why not call one of them and put up your name for a position. There is a lot of hidden talent in our club.
